The Gelsomina farmhouse is situated in the town of Caiazzo, not far from Naples and Caserta . Perched atop a hill overlooking the Volturno Valley, the farmhouse enjoys an enviable panorama, with views extending from the Matesini mountains to the town of Capua.
Gelsomina and its lands have been in the possession of the de Angelis family since 1836, when Giuseppe Andrea de Angelis purchased the ancient stronghold of Caiazzo, including its magnificent Longobard Castle , from Marquis Corsi Salviati of Florence . Today Giuseppe Andrea de Angelis` last descendant, Fernando and his wife Gelsomina, lovingly run the farm with the mission of maintaining its ancient beauty.
The farmhouse was recently restructured to include all modern amenities while still retaining its original charming rustic character. Gelsomina was originally occupied by the estate`s farmers, who were specialized in the growing of olive and fruit trees. These farmers were called upon by Giuseppe Andrea de Angelis and moved from the Peninsula of Sorrento , where there was and still remains a famed tradition in the growing of olive and fruit trees.
Guests of the Gelsomina Farmhouse are situated in one of 12 rooms (6 on the ground floor and 6 on the first floor). All guestrooms are finely furnished and have a private bathroom with shower. The rooms are very large (325 sq. ft.), and have either one double or two single beds with the possibility of adding extra beds or cradles for babies. The guestrooms all enjoy lovely views of the lush Volturno Valley and ancient town of Caiazzo.
The dining room, located on the ground floor, serves dishes primarily using the farm`s own products. The cuisine is prepared according to ancient local recipes from the rustic tradition, so that our guests can share in the discovery of these delicious, forgotten tastes. From the dining room the children`s playground is visible, so that you can look after your children while you`re comfortably sitting at the table.
On the ground floor of the farmhouse there is also a reception hall, a room showcasing the farm`s products, and the kitchen, where vegetables and fruit are made into tasty pickles, jams and candied fruits.
Agriturismo Gelsomina In un’ atmosfera di rilassante vita bucolica, a diretto contatto con la natura e lontano dai rumori della vita quotidiana, dove i cibi genuini sono padroni della tavola, si svolge l’attività agrituristica in un fabbricato composto di 12 stanze, di cui 6 a piano terra e 6 al primo piano.
I pranzi, per un totale di circa 50 coperti, vengono serviti al piano terra dell’edificio, nelle stanze che si aprono sull’aia e sul parco giochi per i bambini, così che i più piccoli possano essere sorvegliati anche stando comodamente seduti a tavola. La cucina è prevalentemente a base di prodotti aziendali preparati seguendo le antiche ricette della locale tradizione contadina per dare la possibilità ai nostri ospiti di riscoprire sapori ormai dimenticati.
Sempre a piano terra si trovano la sala di accoglienza e di esposizione dei prodotti aziendali, i servizi e la cucina dove, quando non si preparano i pasti per gli ospiti, avviene la trasformazione degli ortaggi e della frutta in saporiti sott’olio, sott’aceto, marmellate e frutti sciroppati.
Al primo piano sono ubicate, per un massimo di 12 ospiti, le stanze da letto. Accedendo al piano superiore attraverso la scala a chiocciola interna o le antiche ed intatte scale in pietra viva esterne all’edificio, si arriva in un ampio disimpegno che immette alle stanze, tutte arredate finemente in stile e dotate di proprio bagno con doccia. Gli ambienti sono molto spaziosi (circa 30 metri quadrati), con letti matrimoniali o singoli e con la possibilità di aggiungere letti o cullette da campeggio per i più piccoli e godono tutti del verde panorama della vallata del Medio Volturno con, in primo piano, l’antica cittadina di Caiazzo.
